There is moderate public trust that Governments will distribute the COVID-19 vaccine to those most in need.

March 4, 2021

New survey results indicate moderate trust among adults in the country that Governments will distribute the COVID-19 vaccine to those most in need. Specifically, two-thirds (65%) of Canadians indicate they have either complete or a great deal of trust that Governments in Canada will prioritize the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine such that it will be made available to those groups in the country with the most urgent vaccination needs, while one-third (35%) have either not very much or no trust.

Across the country, residents in Atlantic Canada are slightly more inclined than those elsewhere to trust the Governments in this regard, while conversely, those in the Prairie Provinces are slightly less inclined to express trust.

There are modest differences across demographics, with Millennials being the most likely to express trust (71%), and Gen X residents being least likely (62%).

As well, trust in the Governments is found to increase steadily across education levels. Specifically, fewer than six-in-ten residents who have a high school diploma or less express trust, while, on the other hand, seven-in-ten university educated Canadians have either complete or a great deal of trust in Governments in this regard.

Results are from an online survey conducted February 18-23, 2021, with 1,230 Canadians 18 years of age or older from the Logit Group’s Canadian Omnibus. Fielding every month, the Logit Group’s COVID-19 Omnibus surveys Canadians to ask their opinions and behaviours related to topical issues. Results were analyzed by Narrative Research. Data was weighted based on the 2016 Census, by gender, age, and region to reflect population characteristics in each province. As a non-probability sample (i.e., a panel sample where residents have joined a panel to share their opinions), and in accordance with CRIC Public Opinion Research Standards, a margin of error is not applied.

The question included in this release was the following:

To what extent do you trust that Governments in Canada will prioritize the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine such that it will be made available to those groups in the country with the most urgent vaccination needs?
