The majority of Canadians believe pineapple belongs on pizza.

• Six in ten Canadians believe pineapple belongs on pizza, while four in ten do not.

September 24, 2021

One of the great debates of the 21st century – does pineapple belong on pizza? To better understand where Canadians stand on this issue, we asked residents across the country for their opinion. Results suggest that Canadians are more likely to believe pineapple is a suitable pizza topping, with six in ten indicating it belongs, while four in ten disagree.

While opinions are highly consistent across demographics, there are some interesting regional differences. Residents of British Columbia are most likely than any other region to believe pineapple belongs on pizza, while Quebec residents are divided, with a greater number saying the fruit should not be on the popular dish.

Results are from an online survey conducted September 13–16, 2021, with 1,231 Canadians 18 years of age or older from the Logit Group’s Canadian Omnibus. Fielding every month, the Logit Group’s Omnibus surveys Canadians to ask their opinions and behaviours related to topical issues. Results were analyzed by Narrative Research. Data was weighted based on the 2016 Census, by gender, age, and region to reflect population characteristics. As a non-probability sample (i.e., a panel sample where residents have joined a panel to share their opinions), and in accordance with CRIC Public Opinion Research Standards, a margin of error is not applied.

The question included in this press release was the following:

  • In your view, does pineapple belong on pizza?
