HALIFAX, March 2, 2022:

Nova Scotians remain highly satisfied with the provincial government’s performance led by Premier Houston, with two-thirds (67%, unchanged from November 2021) satisfied, according to the latest survey by Narrative Research. Satisfaction levels increase with age and with household income levels, and is higher among those with a completed post-secondary education.

Decided voter intentions also remain stable compared with November 2021. More than four in ten decided voters (44%, compared with 42% in November 2021) indicated they would vote for the PCs if an election were held today. Approximately one-quarter would vote for the Liberals (27%, compared with 26%), while two in ten would vote for the New Democratic Party (20%, compared with 24%). Few decided voters would support the Green Party (6%), the People’s Party of Canada (1%) or the Atlantica Party (1%).

When asked who they would prefer as Premier, Premier Tim Houston remains the preferred choice of four in ten (39%, compared with 38% in November 2021). The next leader of the Liberal Party is preferred by 17% (compared with 19% for Iain Rankin in November 2021), while preference for next leader of the NDP stands at 13% (compared with 16%). Few prefer either the new Green Party leader Anthony Edmonds (5%), or Jonathan Dean of the Atlantica Party (2%). Preference for Houston, as well as support for the PCs, is higher among those outside of Halifax, as well as among older residents, males and those with higher household incomes.

These results are part of Narrative Research’s Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent, quarterly telephone survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are drawn from an overall sample of 616 adult Nova Scotians, conducted from February 8-23, 2022, with overall results accurate to within ±3.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
