Satisfaction with NS’s Houston government’s performance remains high, albeit slightly declined relative to three months ago.

  • The PCs continue to lead in terms of voter support
  • Houston remains most preferred as Premier

May 25, 2022:

Nova Scotians remain highly satisfied with the provincial government’s performance led by Premier Houston, with six in ten (60%) satisfied, according to the latest survey by Narrative Research. This is down slightly from February 2022 (67%). Satisfaction is the majority viewpoint across the province and various population segments.

Decided voter intentions have remained stable compared with February 2022. Four in ten decided voters (42%, compared with 44% in February 2022) indicated they would vote for the PCs if an election were held today. Approximately one-quarter would vote for the Liberals (27%, unchanged), while the same proportion would vote for the New Democratic Party (25%, compared with 20%). Few decided voters would support the Green Party (4%) or the People’s Party of Canada (1%). Liberals are more preferred in Cape Breton compared with elsewhere in the province. Preference for the PCs is elevated among older Nova Scotians, while, conversely, preference for the NDPs is elevated among younger Nova Scotians.

When asked who they would prefer as Premier, Tim Houston remains the preferred choice of one-third (34%, compared with 39% in February 2022). The next leader of the Liberal Party is preferred by 17% (unchanged), while preference for the next leader of the NDP stands at 16% (compared with 13%). Few prefer either the new Green Party leader Anthony Edmonds (5%), or Jonathan Dean of the Atlantica Party (2%). Houston is most preferred across the province, albeit the next leader of the Liberal party is a close second in Cape Breton.

These results are part of Narrative Research’s Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent, quarterly telephone survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are drawn from an overall sample of 600 adult Nova Scotians, conducted from May 3-22, 2022, with overall results accurate to within ±4.0 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
