PEI: Satisfaction with PEI King government has declined compared with three months ago.

  • The gap between the PCs and Green Party in terms of voting intentions has narrowed.
  • Dennis King remains most preferred as premier.

Satisfaction with the performance of the PEI provincial government led by Premier Dennis King has declined, according to the latest survey by Narrative Research. Currently, a minority of Islanders are satisfied with Premier King’s government (47%, down from 56% in February 2024 and 66% in November 2023). One-half are dissatisfied (49%, up from 36% in February 2024 and 30% in November 2023).

The gap between the PCs and Green Party in terms of voting intentions has narrowed. If an election were held today, the PCs are the preferred choice for four in ten decided voters (42%, down from 51% in February 2024 and 56% in November 2023). Support for the Green Party has risen slightly since last quarter and is up notably from two quarters ago (33%, up from 28% in February 2024 and 18% in November 2023). Support for the Liberal Party stands at 15% (compared with 12% last quarter) and support for the NDP at 7% (compared with 9%).

PC leader Dennis King maintains a lead as choice for Premier, preferred by close to four in ten Islanders (36%, compared with 38% last quarter). Two in ten Islanders prefer interim Green Party leader Karla Bernard as Premier (19%, compared with 17%), while 13% would prefer Hal Perry, interim leader of the Liberal Party (compared with 12%). Unchanged from last quarter, 7% prefer Michelle Neill of the NDP.

These results are part of Narrative Research’s Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent telephone survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are drawn from a sample of 300 adult PEI residents, conducted from May 8-29, 2024, with overall results accurate to within ± 5.6 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times. The results are weighted by region, age and gender to reflect the overall PEI adult population.
