- King’s PC government enjoys highest level of satisfaction in more than 16 years
- PCs hold top voting intentions and widen the gap with the Greens
- King is most preferred as premier, followed by Bevan-Baker
HALIFAX, March 12, 2020: At the start of the year, satisfaction with the performance of the provincial government led by Premier Dennis King is increasingly strong, according to the latest survey by Narrative Research. Eight in ten Islanders cite satisfaction with King’s current provincial government (81%), improving upon King’s previous highest rating of 77% in November 2019. This satisfaction level reflects the highest level of satisfaction reported since 2003.
Decided voter support for the PCs is now at 45% (compared with 38% in November), creating a 17 point gap with the Green Party’s (28%, from 29% in November 2019). Support for the Liberal Party is at 21% of decided voters, (compared with 26% in November), whereas the NDP remained consistent with the previous quarter (6%).
Twenty one percent of PEI voters are undecided, 5% refuse to state which party they support, and 4% do not plan to vote in the next provincial election.
In terms of leadership preference, Dennis King holds steady at 38% (compared with 36% in November). Support for Peter Bevan-Baker remains at 31%, compared with 30% in November 2019. Sonny Gallant is also steady at 11%, and NDP leader Joe Byrne is the choice of 6%, compared with 4% in November 2019.
Ten percent of Islanders do not have a leadership preference, and 4% say they prefer none of the main party leaders.
These results are part of Narrative Research’s Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent telephone survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a sample of 300 adult Prince Edward Islanders, conducted from February 3 – 19, 2020, with overall results accurate to within ± 5.7 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times. *(The sample of 207 decided voters is accurate to within ± 6.8 percentage points, 95 times out of 100.)
