Results this quarter are highly consistent with results seen last quarter.

HALIFAX, March 9th, 2021

Satisfaction with the performance of the PEI provincial government led by Premier Dennis King remains high and is essentially unchanged this quarter (90%, stable from 91%, in November 2020).

Decided voter support for the PCs is also fairly consistent with results last quarter, resting at 57% (compared to 61% in November 2020). Support for the Green Party sits at 21% (compared to 18% in November), with the Liberal Party at 17% (compared to 19% in November). Support for the NDP sits at 4% (consistent with 2% in November). Two in ten PEI voters (21%) are undecided, while 7% refuse to state which party they support, and 2% do not plan to vote in the next provincial election.

“Public sentiment continues to show that Islanders support their provincial government’s actions during these challenging times,” said Margaret Brigley, Narrative Research’s CEO.  “Overall satisfaction with the King government continues to reflect record high levels, which in turn is reflected in strong voting intentions for the PC Party.”

In terms of leadership preference, PC leader Dennis King continues to be residents’ preference as premier, preferred by over one-half of Islanders (53%, stable with 54% in November 2020). Preference for the Green Party’s Peter Bevan-Baker as premier stands at 18% (comparable with 19% in November 2020). Meanwhile, interim Liberal Party leader Sonny Gallant is the choice of 9% (unchanged since May 2020), and 2% prefer the next leader of the NDP (compared with 1% in November 2020). Fifteen percent of Islanders are undecided on the matter of leadership, and 3% say they prefer none of the main party leaders.

These results are part of Narrative Research’s Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent telephone survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a sample of 300 adult PEI residents, conducted from February 2-16, 2021, with overall results accurate to within ± 5.7 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
