With wildfires occurring across the Country, some Canadians have been forced to evacuate their homes to remain safe, while numerous others are being impacted. To understand Canadians’ level of concern about the wildfires in their province, residents were asked to rate their concern using a scale of 1-10.Overall, over one-half of Canadians are concerned about the spread of wildfires in their province, this summer (56% offered a rating of 7-10), while two in ten are moderately concerned (19% offering a rating of 5-6) and a similar portion are not concerned (21% offering a rating of 1-4). Results vary largely by province, with residents of British Columbia (87%) and the Prairies (70%) offering the highest level of concern, compared to those in Atlantic Canada (34%) and Ontario (44%). Across demographics, women (60%) are significantly more concerned compared to men (52%).
Results are from an online survey conducted July 13 – 15, 2021, with 1,231 Canadians 18 years of age or older from the Logit Group’s Canadian Omnibus. Fielding every month, the Logit Group’s COVID-19 Omnibus surveys Canadians to ask their opinions and behaviours related to topical issues. Results were analyzed by Narrative Research. Data was weighted based on the 2016 Census, by gender, age, and region to reflect population characteristics in each province. As a non-probability sample (i.e., a panel sample where residents have joined a panel to share their opinions), and in accordance with CRIC Public Opinion Research Standards, a margin of error is not applied.
