- Andrew Furey continues to lead as the preferred choice of Premier.
Newfoundland and Labrador – November 26, 2024:
A majority are satisfied with the overall performance of the provincial government led by Premier Andrew Furey, according to the latest survey by Narrative Research. Over one-half of residents (56%, compared with 57% in August 2024) are satisfied, while under four in ten (37%, unchanged) are dissatisfied. Satisfaction is generally consistent across the province and is highest among residents aged 55+.
The Liberals lead among decided voters. If a provincial election were held today, one-half of decided voters would support the Liberals (50%, compared with 43% in August 2024), while four in ten would support the PCs (40%, compared with 35%). One in ten would support the NDP (10%, down from 19%). Support for the Liberals is lowest among residents in Central/Eastern NL, while support for the PCs is highest in this area.
“A key advantage of our over 25-year history of tracking data allows us to analyze patterns. What we see in Newfoundland and Labrador – with less than a year to go until the next provincial election – is a stable position for Andrew Furey and the Liberal party,” said Margaret Brigley, CEO & Partner, Narrative Research. “Aside from enjoying relatively steady satisfaction levels with his government’s performance, the Liberals lead in voting intentions, and Furey is most preferred as Premier among the three party leaders.”
Andrew Furey of the Liberal Party remains the preferred choice for Premier. Over four in ten prefer Furey for premier (43%, compared with 38% in August 2024), while one-quarter prefer Tony Wakeham of the PC Party (26%, unchanged), and 11% prefer NDP leader Jim Dinn (compared with 16%). Support for Wakeham is higher outside the Avalon than on the Avalon and is higher among men than women.
These results are part of Narrative Research’s Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent, quarterly telephone survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are drawn from a sample of 350 adult residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.
