Canadians are divided about the removal of mandatory vaccination, testing and quarantine requirements for travel.

  • Over one-half support the removal of mandatory travel requirements, while four in ten are opposed to these changes.

October 27, 2022:

As of October 1st, Canada no longer requires masks or other measures for international travelers, including the elimination of requirements for vaccination, testing, and quarantine. Results show that Canadians are split, with over one-half in support of the removal of travel requirements (54%), compared to four in ten who are against these changes (40%). Six percent are unsure.

Younger Canadians (Gen-X, Millennials, and Gen-Z) are more likely to be in support of the removal of these travel requirements, compared to Boomers who are more likely to be opposed to these changes. Furthermore, men are more likely to support the removal of vaccination, testing, and quarantine requirements compared to women. Of note, there are no notable differences across the country.

Results are from a survey conducted in partnership between Narrative Research and the Logit Group. The survey was conducted online between October 11 to 13 2022 with 1,235 Canadians 18 years of age or older from the Logit Group’s Canadian Omnibus. Data were weighted based on the 2016 Census, by gender, age, and region to reflect actual population distribution. As a non-probability sample (i.e., a panel sample where residents have joined a panel to share their opinions), and in accordance with CRIC Public Opinion Research Standards, a margin of error is not applied.

The question asked was:
