- NL residents have a slightly higher level of satisfaction than those in other provinces.
- Most residents are satisfied with their government’s performance in dealing with U.S. tariffs, although they are less satisfied with how cost of living is being addressed.

A majority of residents in each Atlantic Canadian province are satisfied with their respective provincial government’s performance. This represents a significant shift in public perceptions across all provinces compared to one year ago. Since that time, the region has experienced two provincial elections (NB and NS) and a change in premier in three provinces (NB, PE, NL).

Currently, satisfaction levels with the performance of the provincial government are highest in Newfoundland and Labrador, with two thirds expressing support, reflecting positive views at the end of Premier Furey’s term. This marks the highest level of satisfaction in that province in the past four years.
“The past year has been a time of much change within the region. We’ve seen multiple elections and three new leaders across our region,” said Margaret Brigley, CEO & Partner of Narrative Research. “Despite the tumultuous environment that we live in politically, findings show that Atlantic Canadians are happy with who they’ve chosen to lead their province.”

While overall satisfaction is at a positive level, further results show that satisfaction varies by areas of performance. Most residents are satisfied with their provincial government’s performance in dealing with U.S. tariffs, particularly in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador, where premiers were most vocal, while satisfaction on this issue trails in New Brunswick.
By contrast, there is limited satisfaction with provincial government’s actions in addressing the cost of living in their respective provinces.
These results are part of Narrative Research’s Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent, quarterly telephone survey, and are drawn from an overall probability sample of 400 Nova Scotia, 400 New Brunswick, 350 Newfoundland and Labrador, and 300 Prince Edward Island adult residents, conducted May 7-21, 2025. Results are accurate to within ±4.9 percentage points for a sample size of 400, ±5.2 percentage points for a sample size of 350, and ±5.7 percentage points, for a sample size of 300, 95 out of 100 times. The results are weighted by region, age, and gender to reflect the overall adult population in each province.
