Satisfaction with the provincial government increases. The PCs maintain a strong lead in terms of voter support.

  • Tim Houston remains most preferred as Premier, with the gap widened this quarter.

Nova Scotia – August 23, 2024:

Satisfaction with the performance of the provincial government led by Tim Houston has increased, according to the latest survey by Narrative Research. Currently, 54% of residents are satisfied, up from 44% in May 2024. Four in ten (41%) are dissatisfied, down from 48%.

The PCs continue to hold a strong lead in terms of decided voter intentions, with results stable compared with three months ago. Over one-half of decided voters (53%, compared with 50% in May 2024) would vote for the PCs if an election were held today, with residents being more than twice as likely to vote PC than for any other party. One-quarter would vote for the Liberals (24%, compared with 23%), while two in ten would vote for the NDP (19%, compared with 22%). A minority of decided voters would support the Green Party (4%, compared with 3%). Support for the NDP continues to be higher in HRM than elsewhere in the province.

When asked who they would prefer as Premier, the gap between Tim Houston of the PC Party and other candidates has widened this quarter. Tim Houston is the preferred choice of four in ten (40%, compared with 34% in May 2024). Under two in ten prefer either Claudia Chender of the NDP (19%, compared with 16%) or Zach Churchill of the Liberal Party (18%, compared with 15%). Few prefer the Green Party leader Anthony Edmonds (4%, unchanged).

These results are part of Narrative Research’s Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent, quarterly telephone survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are drawn from an overall sample of 400 adult Nova Scotians, conducted from July 31-August 14, 2024, with overall results accurate to within ±4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times. The results are weighted by region, age, and gender to reflect the overall Nova Scotian adult population.
