Atlantic Canadians are generally optimistic on when the pandemic will end, with the majority believing it will come to a close within the next three years.

  • A quarter of Atlantic Canadians think 2022 will be COVID-19 pandemic’s final year, while 36 percent believe it will end two to three years from now
  • On the other hand, close to two-in-ten Atlantic Canadians feel that the pandemic will never end.

February 15, 2022

Two years after COVID-19 started to spread, Atlantic Canadians were asked to share their thoughts on when they believe the pandemic will end. Six-in-ten are relatively optimistic as we enter the third year of the pandemic, believing it will end either this year (25%) or two to three years from now (36%). Conversely, a few Atlantic Canadians feel the pandemic will never end (16%) and a similar proportion of respondents are not sure when it will end (20%).

Opinions on when the pandemic will be a thing of the past are quite consistent across provinces and age-groups. When looking closer at differences in responses across household incomes, however, more individuals with an income of $100K+ believe the pandemic will end within in the next three years (69%) compared to those with an income of less than $50K (53%). A similar gap is seen across levels of education, where those who have a graduate level of education are more likely to believe the pandemic will end within the next three years (75%) compared to post-secondary (63%) and high school or less (52%).
